Indie Game: the Movie Documentary [VID]

Indie Game: the Movie is just that. A documentary about indie game makers. Producer Scott Ruding wants to take the movie and turn it into a tv show. A scripted show on HBO about indie game makers. Hmm. Not a sitcom either. That sounds destined to fail. Indie games are usually fun and innovative too. Thanks to sites like the Humble Bundle where you pay what you want and can help charity, these indie games are cheap. It would be interesting to see the indie game makers make their craft and struggle with time and resources. I’m not sure how I feel about it becoming a scripted tv show.

Off Book: Video Games PBS Arts

October 26, 2011 Leave a comment

This PBS short documentary discusses video games as art. The video features NYU’s Eric Zimmerman, game designer and researcher Jesper Juul, Kotaku contributor Leigh Alexander and game designer Syed Salahuddin. As an aspiring game artist and avid video game player, it’s important to me that video games be recognized as art. ¬†They should be classified in the same field as books, movies and music. The amount of work that goes into making a AAA title contains as much work as making a book and a movie. Just because the game takes place in another world does not mean it shouldn’t be recognized in the real world.

Bundled with the Target exclusive edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is a 46 minute documentary. The documentary shows behind the scenes footage of Part 1 and 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The trailer above shows that the documentary will be full of candid interviews. It’s just another sad reminder that the series is over.

This Portal documentary is a triumph…

October 4, 2011 Leave a comment

This fake documentary shows you what happens behind the scenes at Aperture Science Laboratories. This 21-minute documentary captures the wit and charm of the Portal series. The doc is workers praising their work and employer. My favorite part of the documentary, as well as Portal 2, is the character Cave Johnson. The actor who portrays him does a pretty good voice impression. There’s many references to the game and other aspects of geek culture. Try and find a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The site itself includes a volunteer application with questions even more ridiculous than a real job application. What’s your favorite type of cake?
